The Nintendo Switch-exclusive game Disney Illusion Island finally has an official release date. During February 2023's Nintendo Direct, there were a lot of major announcements, including new titles, new remasters, and the confirmation of various release dates for several games—one of them being Disney Illusion Island.
Disney Illusion Island was first revealed during D23 2022. In the game, Mickey Mouse and his friends have landed on the mysterious island of Monoth. To be able to save the island, the team must find three magical books, so they can protect the inhabitants called Hokuns. Disney Illusion Island seems to be inspired by Rayman Legends in terms of look and gameplay. However, some would say that it also follows a similar art style that is visible in Cuphead. With fans looking to scratch a multiplayer platforming itch similar to the titles mentioned, Disney Illusion Island might solve that problem.
According to Nintendo of America's latest trailer, the official release date for Disney Illusion Island has been set, and it will be coming out on July 28, 2023. Some gameplay was also shown in the video detailing some mechanics and showing off some cool abilities and levels that will be present in the game, adding more hype for the release. At the end of the video, it was also stated that pre-orders will officially begin today, February 8, 2023.
With multiplayer being a heavy focus of the Switch's game library, adding a Disney-themed one that plays similarly to Rayman Legends could help bring younger gamers into the fold because of its familiarity and accessibility. The hand-drawn graphics also add a lot of charm since it is very reminiscent of the older cartoon look. Plus, having the option to play as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy will allow gamers to pick their favorites when doing the adventure. While no details regarding online multiplayer were revealed, most fans will probably hope that the feature will be available, so they can share the gaming experience with other users.
Hopefully, Disney Illusion Island turns out to be better than Developer Dlala Studios' previous release, Battletoads. With a promising combination of graphics, gameplay, authentic voice talents, and an orchestrated original score, the game has all the potential to be a classic in the Nintendo Switch library. Plus, with Disney Illusion Island being exclusive to the system, non-owners of the portable console could become interested in investing in games such as these.
Disney Illusion Island releases exclusively on the Nintendo Switch on July 28, 2023.
